So this is just sad. Have you seen that baseball card maker Topps has digitally inserted Rudy Giuliani into the card of the Boston Red Sox celebrating the World Series victory?

(For those of you who don't know, Giuliani is from New York and an avid New York Yankees fan - the Red Sox's big rival).

They did this shit last year, too, putting Mickey Mantle and George W. Bush into Derek Jeter's card (see News: Jeter's '07 Topps card). It was goofy and weird last year, but this year it's just a stretch. Just a desperate plea for attention - no doubt all of the folks at Topps were hoping that Giuliani would be a political front-runner right now and they'd get a ton of free publicity.

So sad.

But you know who really loses in this? All of the Red Sox fans who are baseball card collectors - now their prized card of 2007 has New York a-hole Rudy "9-11" Giuliani stuck on it for all eternity.

Good job, Topps, ya' boneheads. Why don't you worry a little less about the publicity and more about making cool cards for kids to collect?

Topps baseball card company is a set of cheap whores
